About Jen

I’m Jen Hambleton, MA, and I have supported hundreds of students and professionals on their academic and career paths since 2006. Prior to starting Intention Advising, LLC in 2020, I guided students from the prospective student-stage through to post-graduate careers as an advisor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), a graduate school of Middlebury College. I also directed the school’s study abroad and fellowship programs, and have coached many students through the process of obtaining prestigious opportunities. While at MIIS, I worked closely with the Admissions Office, met frequently with prospective students, and represented the school at graduate school fairs. I understand the admissions process from the inside!

I moved during the pandemic from Monterey, CA to my “home turf,” Portland, OR, where I live with my tweenage daughter. I work with students from anywhere in the United States in my virtual practice.

I strive to continually stay connected to professional communities of practice and take every opportunity to ensure that I have the most up-to-date knowledge for you and your family. I am an active Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and the Vice Chair of the IECA’s LD/ND (Learning Differences/Neurodiversity) Committee.

I’m also a member of the Pacific Northwest Association of College Admissions Counselors (PNACAC) and the local Portland Area College Counselors Consortium (PACCC). I participate in conferences, webinars and school tours throughout the US.

Involvement in the community is very important to me. I’m grateful to be part of the team of college counselors at Minds Matter Portland, an organization serving accomplished high school students with high financial need. I also serve as the President of the Board of Directors of The Lyceum of Monterey County, an organization focused on education and the arts.

I have an MA in International Policy from the Middlebury Institute and a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Lewis & Clark College. I have worked in the public, private and nonprofit sectors in the US and globally. I know from experience that the college and career path is not always linear, but that when approached with the self-assurance and positivity that can come from good planning, it can be extraordinarily fulfilling.

"Overall I'm super happy! I don't know what would've happened if I had gone somewhere else..., but it's all worked out really well for me and I'm super glad that I'm here. Thank you so much for all of your help with the college process, I'm so relieved that it's all over and whenever I see other friends starting it I feel really glad that I had your assistance and the support of my family. Thank you!"
